Ys IX Monstrum Nox - REVIEW - Game Sack [4K HDR] -

hi and welcome to gamesec i thought today would be a good time to check out east 9 monstrum knox now if you have seen two or 300 gamestack episodes you probably know i am a big fan of the action roleplay series from the east and I have to admit when I first saw the screens on this one I was a little nervous so how can you resist I'm glad you asked to come in right away

east nine monstrum knox by falcom was released late 2019 in japan but wasn't released anywhere else until early 2021 it's on playstation 4 pc switch and also on a fucking stadium i played to the playstation 4 version running on a PlayStation 5. more information later in this review this game starts after the events of e7 in case you didn't know that the eastern timeline doesn't play in the same order as the games, but as of this review this is the last game in the timeline with no current games taking place after the events here so you must be familiar with one of the previous games to enjoy this no absolutely not all east games are a standalone adventure that can be enjoyed as a standalone game although there are many references to past adventures, this game also has a self-deprecating sense of humor at times it feels like shipwrecks are a co-occurrence. mune for you even sailors and fishermen do not experience a fraction of the incidents you were in when the first trailers for this game came out a few years ago, I must admit I was not very impressed to be honest after the incredible expanding adventure that East 8 was this seemed to be more reserved and potentially boring of course I bought it anyway because I will buy any game from the electronic series after seeing that initial trailer I have not seen any subsequent trailers nor have I played any demos so the game ended for be better than i had expected yes very much so it's perfect

you are absolutely not a teenager and yeah i will always pronounce his name this way as this is how the original games did it plus eight sound better than nothing sounds too much like adderall so it's all obviously that kind of sounds like adolf you start the game running away from the prison where you are locked up for some reason on your way out you meet a prilos who curses you to become a monstrous like a monstrum you have a special gift that allows you to do an online with one of these red things by pressing the r2 button you will soon learn that how a monstrum you are forced to fight inside grimwall knox which is full of creatures absolutely in love with the purple black turquoise and white color scheme there are also five other monsters fighting with you in grimwald knox once the gloomy walled knox is been cleaned up, so you will all return to normal people during your adventure you will find out which people are your fellow monsters and suns it's obvious but obviously everyone in the game behaves very surprised yes i said hi you spend a lot of your time exploring the extremely large city of Balduc which was built around the rather large prison you escaped from, i mean the city it's great for a video game but it has nothing on real cities like denver or shanghai or chicago or anything like that, unfortunately how monstrous you are cursed and you can't leave the city ever again you can't even go to many other parts of the city at all. start your main objective is basically to learn the secret of the prison and that of the grimwald knox

these battles are kind of a let down even though in East 8 they added a tower defense aspect to the gameplay and they really took that concept and followed it here i don't know why falcom think everyone wants a tower defense system in their oriental games basically there is a giant crystal in the middle of the stage for whatever reason the monsters inside the Grimwald Knox want nothing more in their lives than to destroy this crystal and you have to defend it from waves and waves of enemies is absolutely chaotic and this is putting kindly before the battles you can improve and power up the crystal or other things to distract the enemies inside the knox these gloomy wall knox battles really look more like a chore and they are definitely the lowest point of the game what worries me is that this is the second game falcom put this shit on just like the three part system, i'm afraid they could keep doing it with all future games in the series because someone who works for them i like it so much i really hope it won't be like that there are some knox battles even if you just have to break all the magenta crystals in each area before time runs out you can pretty much ignore the monsters here but you they will run to keep those crystals intact, kind of like reversing the reels, I guess the bosses of these areas are invulnerable too, I like these knox experiences much more because trying to find all the crystals is actually a little fun once you win a knox battle, a barrier is removed and you are allowed to explore beyond that point, so progressing the story talking about the story is generally good enough here, assuming it is often quite predictable but fun, however there was a point in the story. 'last part of the game where I felt that the story would go downhill but luckily it didn't happen and I can say that I found the story gener ale quite satisfying in some places in the game you are playing eight others all here is where the mystery starts to get pretty good as you explore the inside of the prison i really liked these segments the only bad thing is that just when it starts to get nice you go back to playing the other eight all there are some things even if above all in the final chapter I hear

a bit toned to add a bit of length and by a bit I mean three minutes of dialogue and two minutes of battle oh well speaking of dialogues the characters are once again very very verbose I am often bored with so many dialogues as everything seems on purpose to use as many words as possible to say even the simplest thing i guess i just prefer my dialogues to be more efficient i should have just said it from the beginning for this reason i avoided talking to characters unless i really needed it, maybe i have need to take a little longer, there are a lot of side missions in the game and some of them will be required so if you haven't done them before the final chapter rotates well you will have to do them there are other things you can do too how to collect blue flower petals that are scattered all over the city or look at graffiti you can give away blue petals and report graffiti to earn some cool items basically there is u Lots of things to do in East 9 but you sure don't have to do it all, most of it is extremely fun the good news is you don't have to spend the whole game in the city there are many great dungeons to explore that you also get to leave the city and the outside area is huge with a lot of things to explore maybe the game takes a little too long to be able to leave the city but its a breath of fresh air once you do the gameplay is pretty tight and i mean that literally and figuratively yes the gameplay is tight if you have had a chance to play this it works much the same way with many additions and improvements you still have the three part system that has been in place since e7 keep in mind however , e7 was released in 2010 so many oriental games have since used this pretty much every character has a select type of monster who are best at defeating some characters are best at fleshly things if and soggy others are good at armored or hard stuff and the rest are good at airborne stuff at the end you will have six characters in total in your party and three active members you can switch between the three active members

whenever you are playing with the touch of the circle button this game doesn't seem to penalize you as much for using the wrong type of character for each enemy as previous games did and this is definitely a great thing for most that I just used adol and I only switched to another character when his health went down talking about which the other two characters will fight next to you and you can even tell them to be offensive or defensive anyway they are unlikely to get much damage during most battles so put them on attack and make them work harder for you each monstrum has a unique gift or power that will allow you to explore more cities, for example the white cat can run straight on walls or the hawk can glide during a jump most dungeons will require the talents of each monster to overcome certain obstacles, so this probably means you will change a lot at back and forth between characters, actually no thank god once another monstrous joins your party every character can use his powers even if that character leaves your party for a while you can still use all powers that you may first i am glad they made this choice as this improves the game immensely another thing i really like is the mapping as you explore a yellow line stays behind you to show where you have been recently yes 8 did this too , but I feel they have improved a lot here for one hard line much longer the action is fast enough and you can't beat even the hack and slash feel it explores is super fun especially once you have all the power of the monstrum to help you get almost anywhere you can see and many places you can also enjoy the mini system as it is extremely easy to work with and manage with your items and equipment

who cares okay, so now we've taken a look at how the game actually works, so let's talk about the elephant in the room, the graphics and the rest of the presentation if you can remember the beginning of this episode where I have said i am playing the playstation 4 version on ps5 congratulate yourself you have an amazing memory and you deserve an ice cream cone as a reward i have not tried to play this game on ps4 or ps4 pro i have read that the game runs at 30 frames per second on an amateur ps4 and a little better on a ps4 pro the game runs at constant 60 frames per second here on ps5 there may be dips here and there but i haven't noticed many if any you can play it in hdr on a ps5 even if the game does not natively exploit the hdr it is instead the tone mapped by the console all the footage I recorded on me while I was playing here was before the ps5 firmware was updated to allow the activation / deactivation of hdr p For non-hdr games, that's why this episode is present and in 4k hdr 60 frames per second if you want to see what the hdr mapped tone looks like in this game look good this episode on a hdr display in both cases you will get bold and bright colors too if the city itself is largely a monotone light gray as far as the rest of the graphics quality is concerned it honestly looks like a PlayStation 3 game maybe even a little worse in some areas there is jaggedness everywhere and I think the game has a lower internal resolution at 720p things sometimes pop in and out of existence and overall it really looks pretty dated even for 2019 when this originally came out in Japan, in fact in many ways it's almost embarrassing if you've ever played east and then you know that that game looked just as good if not better than this, it also does on a base ps4 where it ran at 60 frames per second, so what happened i read that falcom created a new custom engine for this game and maybe this is the cause at the same time i also read the new falcom ing one will be there

the next east game so I'm not sure what to believe, I'm sure someone will leave a comment below saying one way or another regardless of whether it's a step back from ease 8 on the base ps4 or even the ps4 pro , in fact I would not recommend to play them on anything else except a ps5 unfortunately they are hard to find these days maybe try the pc version it is very disappointing that falcom dropped the ball here i suppose it is possible that the city is too detailed for falcon's existing engines therefore limit frame rate on some platforms and also reduce resolution a bit, having said that you get used to it at least on ps5 the city design and monsters are obviously low budget but are excellent for what the bosses are all great and each of them is extremely fun to fight while there was one that wasn't extremely funny but it was okay the characters all have a unique design co and nice and are instantly recognizable across the room some of the npc looks identical although i imagine there are many many twins in baldur city, the graphics improve a bit as you progress further in the game like here in these caves I have heard that the textures and everything else here are of a higher quality than in the city

legendary weapons and artifacts but somehow you always lose them after the ease ending 8 left me a little disappointed but here is not the case fortunately yes it could definitely be much better but it is still a very memorable adventure in reality this is probably one of my best east games for me despite its flaws i don't like it as much as ease 8 but it's maybe just behind the turbografx cd versions of ease one two and four so i guess this would make my 5th favorite east game hey it's still pretty good in fact the singular city in the game satisfied me East 3 which also only had one city not so how many hours did it take me to complete the game because there is no timer at least not one I know but it was a lot more than enough for me and as I said you can greatly expand your time if you want to do everything, I can't wait to see what they come up with for the eventual orientation 10. I hope they can ano get their team graphics in gear for that version and make it look at least a little modern please less or no more tower defense stuff i recommend you more underwater i will definitely buy it overall absolutely east nine monstrum knox of sure oh and sorry no you can pet the dog

there you have it, those are my thoughts on East 9 Monster knocks it is an awesome game that I think everyone should play if you are new to the series this is as good a game as any to dive into and I think you will have fun granted it is not a triple game and you know sometimes its okay have fun for what it is anyway what are your thoughts on east 9 monster knocks if you played it let me know in the meantime thanks for watching the sag game
